the case for space

Use this form to send an email to your representatives, to urge them to work with dog park advocates to set up a pilot program for an off-leash beach at Dockweiler.
Feel free to edit the letter.(This letter will be sent to: Assemblymember Ted Lieu, Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky, Supervisor Don Knabe and Councilmember Bill Rosendahl.) I am writing to urge you to serve your local constituents by creating a pilot program for an off-leash dog beach on a portion of Dockweiler State Beach. Dockweiler has many areas that are virtually empty year round and would make a perfect place for our first off-leash dog beach in Los Angeles. With over 50 off-leash dog beaches already in existence in California, Los Angeles is virtually the last urban area to deny it's residents beach access to recreational space for themselves and their dogs...San Diego alone has 4 off-leash dog beaches. Studies have proven there is no difference in water quality at a dog beach and a non-dog beach. Statistics show that if dog owners are given a designated area to recreate, these areas are a positive addition to their community. With an estimated 750,000 dogs in Los Angeles, it is time for local politicians to "step up to the plate" and show political leadership by creating a pilot program for an off-leash dog beach at Dockweiler. Nearly 200,000 dog owners are registered to vote in Los Angeles and in future elections, we will vote for the candidate that supports our cause. Thank you very much for your attention to this important issue.
