How to Establish a Dog Park
- Define a space
- Ascertain who owns the space
- Approach the owner(s) as to the feasibility of fencing
in acreage for an off-leash park
- at least one acre will be needed
- stay away from grass
- parking is necessary
- water access is necessary for a water fountain
- Engage in a petition drive, if necessary
- Have community meetings to acquire a positive public
consensus from the community and surrounding neighbors (if any)
- Acquire an architect to design the off-leash area
- Obtain costs of developing the project
- Prepare a proposal to present to the correct parties
- Acquire funds through City or private means to build
the park
- Organize a Dog Park Council to help monitor, maintain
and advise patrons on the site specific rules and regulations you
have adopted.
- Have monthly meetings with your City officials on
management of your off-leash area.
- Organize ongoing monthly fundraising campaigns to
finance new projects for the park
